JAVASATU.COM- Indonesian Armed Forces (TNI) Commander General Agus Subiyanto affirmed that the deployment of military personnel to support security at the Attorney General’s Office is legally grounded. He made the statement following a working meeting with Commission I of the House of Representatives (DPR RI) at the Parliamentary Complex in Jakarta, Monday (May 26, 2025).
“This deployment falls under the framework of Military Operations Other Than War (OMSP), as stipulated in Law No. 3 of 2025,” General Agus said.
He also referred to a Memorandum of Understanding between the TNI and the Attorney General’s Office, as well as Presidential Decree No. 466 of 2025 on the Protection of Prosecutors.
“Article 4 of the Presidential Decree states that the protection of prosecutors shall be carried out by both the National Police and the TNI,” he added.
The involvement of military personnel in safeguarding the prosecutors’ institution has sparked public debate over the independence of the legal system. Responding to the concern, General Agus emphasized that the TNI remains professional and proportionate in supporting law enforcement.
“Our mission is clear: to safeguard national stability and support a fair legal system,” he asserted.
During the meeting, the TNI Commander also addressed lawmakers’ questions regarding a recent ammunition explosion incident in Garut. He assured that all detonation procedures had followed standard operational guidelines.
“The disposal was initiated by a report from the user unit, forwarded to the Ministry of Defense, and executed by the Gupusmu unit,” he explained.
The closed-door session was attended by chiefs of staff from all military branches. Strategic topics discussed included the security of vital national objects, inter-agency coordination, and operational evaluations of troop deployments across regions.
